An Ode To The Protest March. by Phil Brennan

On the brink

The ‘protest’ march is on this week, and for those who may ask Why?

It’s to raise the public’s awareness, that ‘our’ club is about to die

Mr. Curtis and Co. please take note, you were brought in to help us survive

But since you took control of things, our fortunes have taken a ‘dive’

‘no news is bad news’ these days, and rumours seem to confirm our fears

That Stockport County FC, are to disappear after 126 years

We are powerless to defend the club, as the end appears ever nearer

All we want is to be told the truth, and for the picture to be clearer

It doesn’t matter anymore, what put our club into administration

What we all just need, and want, is an end to all this frustration

So if the march achieves one thing, and let’s hope it’s some good news

Like the guaranteed future in the Football League, of our beloved ‘blues’

I’m sure I speak for many a fan, in that I’d be happy with a reprieve

And then maybe, the club can appoint some leaders in who we can believe

But first things first, and on with the march, we need someone to hear our voice

To stop the slow and painful death, of our football club of choice

The first call is at Stockport Town Hall, and a council leader we can’t rely on

Mr. Goddard shows no support, as he speaks with his ‘man city’ tie on

He states the importance of the club to the town, but there’s no cash for us at all

Especially as the council has just spent a load of dosh, renovating an old ‘bingo hall’

Then on to Manchester, passed the PFA, then to Leonard Curtis for some answers

Especially about the £300 an hour, they charge to ‘look after’ the clubs finances

Yes Wednesday is a big day for our club, the message shouted from the paving

Will be that Stockport County FC, is very much a football club worth saving.

Immense Pride.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone that has made this thing even possible.

I never doubted the spirit of my fellow County Fans.

But I am proud to say,
in these most testing of times,
that you have surpassed yourselves.

If the immense effort, and quite brilliant organisation, that has gone into this event from the Co-opts, Cohersed and Conscripts,is anything to go by,
Wednesday is going to be quite something.

Keep the momentum going.

Keep your chins up.

And let's make some noise.

We deserve to be heard,
and believe me,
THEY are listening!

The Price Is Right!

Are you having a tough time getting through to some people?

For every Reason you offer for our Plight, do they come back with yet another Garbled Misconception surrounding the Club's Finances?

Try this;

David Farms Ltd Put Stockport County Into Administration Because They Were Owed Just
£300,000.00

And

The Adminsitrators Invoice For Their 1st 6 Months
(Of Failure To Find A Buyer) is

£311,000.00

I've Tried This.

And Now They Get It.

Seemples

A Fantastic Effort By Everyone So Far.

There has been a great deal of Progress today, with the Organisers getting to grips with new roles and responsibilities, and the level of support they have been given from a growing army of Volunteers gives me confidence that this event will be a Success.

On the Media Coverage side of things, a rather hasty Sheikh from Abu Dhabi has pushed us out of the headlines here and there, but, we'll deal with that little event over the next 48 hours.

Vernon Bear standing for Election against Councillor/Mayor Goddard anyone?

Please keep up the good works being carried out all over the Borough and Beyond.

And most importantly, Get Down to EP on Wednesday 23rd December 2009, and bring as many with you as possible.

The Co-opted March Organisers And More...

Firstly, thank you for the overwhelming offers of Goodwill, Support and crucially, Practical Help.

There are so many people to thank, I wouldn't know where to start, and I would hate to miss anyone out, so I will publish a list of everyone involved at some point in between Christmas and New Years' Day.

Where we stand today, is I almost have enough Co-opted Organisers to ensure we will have a successful Day on Wednesday.

I need to ask you to direct your ideas, questions and time and effort
to the people listed below;

Banners and Flags

Everyone is, of course, welcome to create and design their own.

But we need someone to ensure we have enough displaying Messages that define the March, and therefore the Objectives behind it.
So if you can make a reasonable looking Flag or Banner, but need some inspiration, Billy Byrne will be happy to provide you with the Theme and Wording.
He can be contacted on Yellow Board, or by e-mail billyj.byrne@ntlworld.com

Media Contacts NW Region

If you have the name, number etc of a Regional/Local Newspaper/Magazine/Television/Radio or Web based Publisher, please forward the details to David Meller who can be contacted at david.meller@gmail.com

David will ensure they are contacted, if you think that it may have already been done, please forward the details anyway. He will collate who has and who has not responded, and we will keep on keeping on, until we get one.

Media Contacts National

If you have the name, number etc of a National Newspaper/Magazine/Television/Radio or Web based Publisher, please forward the details to Nyree Hood who can be contacted at nyreehood@hotmail.com

Nyree will ensure they are contacted, if you think that it may have already been done, please forward the details anyway. He will collate who has and who has not responded, and we will keep on keeping on, until we get one.

Printing of Handouts etc - TBC Saturday 17th December

As most Printers have now closed for Christmas, it is an issue of Mechanical Availability, but we have an offer of help from HTH, and two Printers(individual printers that is) willing to do the work for free, however in each case they need to confirm that they have the Capacity available.

IF NOT, DOES ANYONE HAVE A HIGH QUALITY/SPEED/VOLUME PHOTOCOPIER THAT THEY CAN OFFER THE USAGE OF?

Leaflet Dropping

Contact Greg Hall

We have a number of volunteers for this, and special thanks to Tim Whitwey(?), m0ssey and Joan Plimmer, but this is going to be a bit of a short notice job, and we want to get 10,000 minimum out there,

So e-mail SandbachHatter@hotmail.co.uk if you can deliver,
provide Greg with your Name, Mobile Number Postcode Home/Work

and he'll tell you what area(closest to you as possible)and you'll need to deliver them straight away.

Safety Marshall's

Ian Brown will Co-ordinate a number of Marshals required to ensure we can make as much Impact as possible, but to keep the Disruption to a minimum at areas of the March where we are simply in transit, i.e. some of the legs along the A6, we want to be noticed, but will gain nothing from stopping the Traffic.
And in 'Areas of Interest' such as the Town Hall and Leonard Curtis, he can help liase with the Police to ensure we don't embarrass ourselves and the Club, but stay right on the edge of what is permissible and cause as much 'Noise and Colour' by default, rather than design.

He has asked me to confirm he is not a former Director of anything, and has nothing whatsoever to do with the Stone Roses, and is just a namesake.

He can be contacted on Yellowboard and by e-mail madhatterib@aol.com

If you can help and would like to volunteer as a Marshall, or are able to provide
High Visibility Jackets, Vests or Bands Ian would like you to get in touch.

Voice For Radio? Camera Friendly Face?

Contact me on 07890 748 566
or david.schofield08@yahoo.co.uk

I am coping OK now we have some extra Organisers, but the Media response has been incredible, and I might just need your help as we get nearer to the event.

It's not for the Shy, and it's not for the Beautiful People without the knowledge of our plight, but there are people out their who can do it.

So say hello as soon as possible.

Support Vehicle

We can't thank YellowBoards "Cheadle Ender"who has agreed to provide a 14 Seater Minibus FREE OF CHARGE

To follow the March, and in doing so afford those with Kids, The Elderley the Infirm and anyone who is simply knackered can have a rest.

Just Fantastic Work

And Finally

WHAT HAVE WE FORGOT ALL ABOUT?

Post your thoughts here please.

The March has been divided into 14 Stages, 7 each way.

These are Meeting Places for people joining and departing the March, if they wish to be involved, but can't complete the whole course.

Please don't be embarrassed by only joining us for a mile or two.

Every time the March arrives at a Meeting Place, it picks up new fresh impetus and hopefully this will ensure spirits remain high, and their Vocal Chords can have a rest without any loss of impact.

So, please join in when you can, and stay with us for as long as you can manage, you will be made to feel very welcome.
